I’ve been open to the Kerry McCain ticket, but it struck me this week that McCain may actually be (even) more useful to the Kerry campaign right where he is — a Republican, and at least nominally part of the Bush campaign — someone who can’t be completely dismissed by the Right, much less independents — ready and willing to come to Kerry’s defense when the Administration’s attacks on Kerry cross the line.

One response to “McCain: A win-win for Democats?”
Yo Cecil-
I’ve been thinking the same thing. I don’t want McCain as the VP candidate. We’ve already seen how the neo-cons are willing to bash the man when he disagrees with Bush. They made up the bastard child thing in the last election. They will stop at nothing to destroy any honorable person in their path.
My main disappointment is that McCain is willing to swallow his pride and support the party line publicly, when in private it is clear that he detests the man.
I think that if President Bush were truly looking out for the government’s and Republican party’s best interests, he would make McCain his running mate and pledge to step down after the election (assuming its too late and unrealistic for McCain to start running against him now). That would be a sure win for the republicans.
But no, this isn’t really about what’s best for the country or the republican party, is it?
