Opensourcing Rice

Heard several times yesterday about the genome of rice (or at least the 20/80 part of it) being published by two different entities. I like this idea of open-source genetics. It’s funny how science (I like the German word, which I will attempt to spell: Wissenschaft — I take it as a cognate for knowing-shape or knowledge-scape) seems to be the process of us organisms looking into our own ingredients and recipe rules. Do cakes imagine how to bake a better dessert?
