I try not to amplify rumors even while lately most rumors I’ve been hearing have either come true or turned out worse than rumored. Especially now I don’t want to spread stories that may not be true or might actually be in flux right now.
So I’m glad I didn’t report that people at TTS are not having to write five-bullet reports daily, as it turns out it’s only some project leads, and I’m also glad I didn’t spread the rumor we saw on Blue Sky today that [REDACTED] was about to be RIF’d because as far as we can tell this is not actually happening right now, but is something maybe about to happen? Not for me to say (yet).
We do know they laid off around 600 from the Public Building Service in the dead of night last night. Losing 80 technologist means removing a critical check on misbegotten “efficiency” efforts. Losing 600 PBS staff is an earthquake, and a human tragedy, and they’re not done at GSA, and GSA is the beta test.
But amidst all of this the mailbox one of us set up at Team18F@gmail.com received a resume today from someone who had just learned about 18F and would like to work for us someday if we ever get back on our feet.

I mean, we are at minus 85 jobs right now and so we’re not at all in a position to help find employment for additional people, of course, but still… this is kind of amazing? If we wanted a tangible sign of whether we are on the right side of history and whether we are having any success at all in telling our story, someone sending us their resume right now kind of fits the bill, if you ask me.
