Spent most of the day in the studio at Goody Sound, mixing two more songs from the record. I posted them both to Soundcloud last night and the first one has nine listens so far and the second has 137. Go figure.
Moses Took Us to the Water
“Moses Took Us to the Water” (I keep going back and forth on whether to call it by its full name or just “Moses”) has a lot of parts and we managed to orchestrate the entrances and exits. We also found a few buried takes here and there that improved specific moments.
The core groove comes from David Gans on guitar, Dan Brodnitz on piano, Joe Kyle Jr. on upright bass, and Joe Craven‘s percussion. Joe Craven’s mandolin and tambourine and Myles Boisen‘s pedal steel and lap steel round out the arrangement, with myself on lead vocals:
All I Know (Song for Finn)
The other one we mixed is “All I Know (Song for Finn)” and I’m really happy with the fine attention to detail that went into polishing this one. Lorna Kollmeyer‘s harmony vocals really bring out the best in my singing, too. When I listened to this latest mix I felt like the little song I wrote at the prompting of my godson has blossomed into an entire journey.
This track also features David Gans on guitars, Robert Wade on bass, Javier Navarrette on shakers and congas, and myself on electric ukulele.
