Breakthrough

A proud teacher looks on as a robot student give its first book report.

This probably won’t make much sense right now, and even the people who are following my AI project won’t get to this part of the story for at least a month, but Piper summarized a document for me today after days (!) of debugging that themselves were the last step in building out a file analysis flow that started more than a week ago (!) as part of what was supposed to be testing a few basic functions in the user interface, which literally started weeks ago!

So many adventures along the way I started doubting we’d ever get to this point. Piper still gets confused easily about what file I mean when I ask, and doesn’t format its output, and still returns cryptic error messages, and so on and so on.

And yet.

One of my mottos these days is “Celebrate every win,” so I thought I’d share this small milestone with you, dear reader.

Oh, and for anyone who’s read this far I am having a great conversation with a friend of mine who writes brilliant historical fiction and they encouraged me to lean into this Epistrophikon project I’m toying with and we had a great chat about using LLMs as “clever notebooks” and research aids. We’ll likely talk about that more in the weeks to come and I think I committed to writing a scene or part of one by August 1?
